As part of the »Hollywood in Vienna« concert gala, the City of Vienna honors one of the most important film music composers of our time with the Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award.
The Viennese Max Steiner is one of the most influential pioneers in Hollywood film history and composed the music to timeless film classics such as KING KONG, GONE WITH THE WIND and CASABLANCA.
This year, “Hollywood in Vienna” honors and presents current and classic masterpieces of film music by Alan Menken. Alan Menken is one of Hollywood’s most successful film composers and a true Disney legend. He wrote melodies that are known worldwide and enchant generations.
Menken received two Oscars for ARIELLE in 1989, and he received a total of six more for the modern Disney classics BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1991), ALADDIN (1992) and POCAHONTAS (1995). This makes Menken the living film composer who has been awarded the most Oscars. He has also received 11 Grammys and 7 Golden Globes.
Menken received further nominations for the musical design of the films The Little Shop of Horrors (1986), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Hercules (1997), Enchanted (2007) and Rapunzel – Newly Vertöhnt (2010).
